Verbier Route - Chamonix to Zermatt
The Haute Route via Verbier is a bit more of a "skiers" tour. There is slightly less mountaineering, with a bit more emphasis on skiing. It has a less remote feel than the Plateau du Couloir route, but is more practicable in marginal weather. It remains, however, a serious challenge, and all the potential difficulties (and fantastic rewards) of high alpine touring can be found. We run our Haute Route trips at a low skier to guide ratio of 3:1 for the Classic route and 4:1 on the Verbier route. The low ratio increases security on steep ground and allows us to better customize the trip to the groups needs. Our tour begins with a spectacular 9000 foot descent of the Vallée Blanche. For the next 7 days we ski hut to hut beginning in France and soon passing into Switzerland through the heart of the Alps. We cross into Switzerland, arriving at the Trient hut on our first day of touring. On day 3 the Verbier version and the Plateau version of the tour diverge. The former continues on to the Mont Fort Hut, then the Dix and Vignettes huts. The Plateau du Couloir route carries on to reach Bourg-St-Pierre on the afternoon of Day 3. From here we climb up to the Valsorey Hut and the following day cross the Plateau du Couloir to reach the Chanrion hut. A number of options present us at this point, but all leading to the Vignettes hut. The last day of either itinerary continues on to Zermatt. back to top

  Alta Via2 Dolomiti Route
Access: Malga di Crocifisso - Passo delle Selle This first stage leads through Valle dei Monzoni, a southern side valley to Val di San Niccolò. The lower parts of it are very popular among the picknick crowd, so expect to meet a lot of people. The main reason for the popularity are the many Malghe and Rifugios, which are all aligned along the valley.Valle dei Monzoni turns southward at Malga di Crocefisso. After about 500m the road is closed with a small parking lot at its end. From here shuttle buses can take you to Malga Monzoni right in the middle of the valley. You better use this offer because otherwise you'll be hiking a dirt road with a shuttle bus racing by every 10 minutes. After Malga Monzoni the road ends in a trail intersection. To the west (No 624) you can reach Forcella la Costella, the southern trail (No 603) leads to Passo delle Selle. Half an hour of beautiful forest trails take you to the neat Rifugio Taramelli, a small cabin built on to of a limestone rock. Very nice to behold. From Rifugio Taramelli a steep scramble leads up to Valle delle Selle, a high valley which ends in Lagho delle Selle at its bottom. The lake is very small and it didn't hold any water in late July anymore. From the lake the trail crosses over to the norhern side and leads along the slopes of Pala di Carpella up to Passo (and Rifugio) delle Selle. back to top

  "Chomolhari" Base Camp Trek
Druk Yul, or "Land of the Thunder Dragon," is the remote Himalayan kingdom we know as Bhutan. Isolated from the rest of the world by some of the highest mountain ranges on earth BhBhutan: A Druk Landutan has retained much of its fascinating culture and is still poorly known by the West. Although most of it is now open to foreigners, tourist quotas are severely restricted and few travelers and even fewer birdwatchers have had first-hand experience of this unique and diverse country. On this tour we’re sure to see birds in
abundance. Over 70 percent of the land surface is forested, only a small fraction is cultivated and much of the remainder is above the treeline. Over 600 species have so far been recorded in Bhutan and a significant number, such as Satyr Tragopan, Blood Pheasant, Wedge-billed, Long-billed and Bar-winged Wren-Babblers, Yellow-throated Fulvetta and Fire-tailed Myzornis, are far easier to see here than anywhere else on earth. And Bhutan is virtually the only accessible place to see several others such as White-bellied Heron, Ward’s Trogon, Beautiful Nuthatch and Blue-fronted Robin. It is difficult to distill Bhutan’s attractions into a short account: there is stunning mountain scenery; incredible geographic and ecological diversity with tropical rainforest along the country’s southern border and forests of oak, rhododendron and conifer across the higher, more northerly slopes; and there are the Bhutanese people themselves, whose ancient traditions still form an integral part of everyday life—their beautiful monasteries, dzongs and fluttering prayer flags; their colorful clothes, bizarre archery contests and personable natures. Bhutan fires the enthusiasm of all who have visited it, leaving them with a sense of privilege and a longing to return.

  Tibet Lahsa City Tour
Tibet, province-level administrative region of China, locateThe Potala Palaced in a high-mountain area in the southwestern part of the country. It is officially called the Tibet (Chinese Xizang) Autonomous Region (TAR). Potala The enormous palace known as the Potala is the traditional residence of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual and temporal leader of the Tibetan people. The 14th and current Dalai Lama, however, has resided in exile in India since the invasion of Tibet by the Chinese in the 1950s. During the 17th century the 5th Dalai Lama began construction on the palace, located in the southeastern city of Lhasa, Tibet's capital of government and commerce.Woodfin Camp and Associates, Inc./Lindsay Hebberd Throughout its long history, Tibet at times has governed itself as an independent state and at other times has had various levels of association with China. Regardless of China’s involvement in Tibetan affairs, Tibet’s internal government was for centuries a theocracy (state governed by religious leaders), under the leadership of Buddhist lamas, or monks. In 1959 the Dalai Lama (spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and at that time the head of Tibet’s internal government) fled to India during a Tibetan revolt against Chinese control in the region. China then took complete control of Tibet, installing a sympathetic Tibetan ruler and, in 1965, replacing the theocracy with a Communist administration. back to top

to ascend Kangri, a 6,114m. peak overlooking Leh. We approach from the

Ladakh trek. back to top

  Manali Zanskar Leh
The ancient name for Kullu Manali means “the end of tManali Zanskarhe
habitable world”. Though one can drive in summer from Kullu valley into Lahaul and beyond, the sparsely inhabited west valley still remains quite unexplored. Zanskar valley is one of the most isolated in the whole of India. Ringed by high mountains, it is still very difficult to approach. One access road is only open a few months a year. This long and difficult trek is perhaps the finest in the region with astonishingly wild and spectacular scenery, with many high passes, glaciers, deeply eroded gorges and multi-colored rock formations.
Our trek begins from Manali/Darsh, crossing the high passes, like the Shingo Pass. We then walk to Padum the capital, visiting several of Zanskar’s many monasteries and finally reaching Leh. From Leh we fly back to Delhi.

Eduardo Strauch, one of the famous 16 Andes Survivors will join us in this unforgettable trip.An incredible valley in the middle of the majestic Andes. The site is reached using 4x4 vehicles to a post from where we ride horses to our high camp. Next day we ride horses all the way up to the memorial site where the remains of the airplane are. This being the least physically demanding choice, all it requires is to ride horses for 2-4 hours a day for the 4 days we are on the mountains.
Our expedition also offers full support for your comfort. Horses carry all of our gear so you do not have to carry a heavy backpack at any time. We provide tents for sleeping and dining, cooks to prepare our food, horse handlers, and guides and assistants to help you with anything you may
need: from translations and setting up tents for you, to packing and answering any questions.
